While #NARannual is going on, there are meetings set aside for incoming and outgoing state association presidents to spend time together. Some of that time is over meals with no agenda, while others are part of a structured idea exchange. While our more than 50 US states and territories have distinct identities, cultures, and legislative and regulatory environments, there are very few issues that don’t affect multiple states. That means that there is almost always an opportunity to learn from peers.
On Friday morning, outgoing 2017 state presidents had breakfast in a different room from the incoming 2018 presidents. At the end, the 2017 class stormed the 2018 breakfast to share with their successors a Past President’s Pledge, which was a partially serious, partially comical pledge to offer support and guidance to the next state leader (and laugh at all jokes).
Here are some of those images of the torch being passed. Thanks to the 2017 class of state presidents for your diligent and faithful service!
