Green, while still confusing to many, is gaining visibility and popularity in terms of knowledge and insight amongst our peers and practitioners.
Subject matter experts Meg Garabrant, Director of Market Communications/NEREN MLS; Michael Hobbs, PahRoo Appraisals; and Amanda Stinton, NAR Director of Sustainability and Green Designation; presented and led the discussions on these topics.
Despite the leaps and bounds in Green awareness, our members still struggle with participation and utilization of the tools and resources available to them. These tools are often demanded, by the ever diligent, resourceful, and savvy consumer, such as Green MLS fields, which are used not only proper promotion but also for the “cost of operations” savings calculations. A great many of today’s smart home buyers are already doing energy consumption analysis on their own, that we should be doing or initiating on their behalf as their advocates and advisors.
If your MLS has Green fields, you should know how to utilize them when inputting a listing. Not only for the consumer’s insight but also so the appraisers can understand how to value that home’s features for the lenders properly.
