Another underappreciated part of the conference is the Urban Roundtable. The largest urban areas’ AE and presidents are invited to visit about the issues they have and to hear from expert speakers. This year the topic was walkability.
Jeff Speck gave out copies of his book Walkable City. Both he and Mark Fenton (pictured below), talked about benefits, trends, good design, and demographic and habit change.
Costs of health care were also part of this discussion. Health is such a problem now that implementing walkability seems cheap for the overall benefit.
