I had the unique opportunity this year to “man a booth,” specifically the Beverly Carter Foundation booth. As I stood at the booth, I heard many stories from REALTORS® about situations that they found themselves in during the normal course of business: individuals insisting on meeting them at a vacant home without meeting at the office first, stories about colleagues who have been attacked, robbed or worse. It reinforced that our mission of agent safety is more important than ever.
We held our first in-person board meeting to discuss plans for 2019, new partnerships, and our never-ending goal of bringing safety to every corner of the country.
I asked our founder, Carl Carter Jr., to jot down his thoughts for this blog:
“I’m still reeling from the amazing time at the National Association of REALTORS® 2018 Conference & Expo! At our Beverly Carter Foundation Expo booth, we were able to have such meaningful conversations with hundreds of agents and affiliates about our mission to improve the safety of agents in our great industry. Since losing my sweet mama, Beverly Carter, to a violent crime against an agent in 2014, I’ve been fired up about improving the safety of agents in our great industry. The formation of this nonprofit has provided such a wonderful platform for us to share and grow. If you’re not already, I hope you will join with us in this critical mission.
This year we’ve already conducted 35 instructor-led safety training classes for over 1680 attendees spanning 23 states! Just in time for the NAR conference, we’re thrilled to announce that our new website is live! Visit www.BeverlyCarterFoundation.org for Safety Training & Victim Resources. This new platform allows us to share like never before. We extend so much gratitude to our friends at My Florida Regional MLS for making this new site possible! Stay tuned for exciting program expansion in 2019!”
